Raffael Ahsan speaking at the programme, titled “In Conversation with MSJ Alumni”, moderated by Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, Assistant Professor of MSJ.

Independent filmmaker Raffael Ahsan has said ULAB is the institution that greatly helped him develop a passion for filmmaking. He made the remark when speaking at a programme named “In Conversation with MSJ Alumni” at ULAB Permanent Campus Auditorium on March 28. Raffael, who is a former student of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) department at ULAB, is known as an independent filmmaker. “Noy Chhoy” and “Amer Poth Chola” are some of his notable works. Currently, he is working with Netflix, one of the biggest global digital streaming platforms. During the conversation, Raffael shared experiences regarding his journey with mainstream films and how he got motivated to work with alternative films. “Alternative is the mainstream! People are more interested in alternative films rather than mainstream ones…it’s a great place to get recognised globally,” Raffael added. The main purpose of bringing a successful MSJ alumnus is to inspire the current students to take a lead in their respective fields, and to give them a platform to learn through someone’s experiences. Earlier, in the morning, Professor Dr Jude William Genilo, Head of MSJ, delivered a welcome speech. Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, Assistant Professor of MSJ, moderated the entire session with Raffael Ahsan. Towards the end of the programme, there was a question-answer segment where students asked the guests questions. Following that, Professor Jude handed over a gift pack to the guest as a token of appreciation, thus marking an end to the programme. PR4U, a public-relations based apprenticeship programme of MSJ, organised the entire event attended by faculty members and students.
