Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) department at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised an orientation program for its Spring 2019 intake at permanent campus auditorium on February 7. Prof Dr Jude William R Genilo, head of MSJ department, delivered the welcome speech at the event organised by PR4U -- an apprenticeship program of the department. During faculty introduction, Dr Jude introduced himself and other faculty members one by one.  Faculty members also shared inspirational words with the freshman students. Assistant Professor Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, also MSJ Undergraduate Coordinator, made a PowerPoint presentation to get the newcomers associated with the department’s history and mission. After that, Muhammad Aminuzzaman, a senior lecturer and MSJ internship coordinator, highlighted the importance of a portfolio in the current job market, and gave the students step-by-step guidelines on how to create their own portfolios throughout the four-year journey. Professor Dr Shahnaj Husne Jahan of General Education Department (GED) talked about the importance of GED courses at ULAB. To motivate the freshmen, two short films made by MSJ students -- “Identity” and “Pothe Pothe” -- and a music video named “The radio show”, were screened at the program. Later, PR4U volunteers guided the freshmen to the designated rooms for a session with their respective advisors. Later, representatives of different apprenticeship programs of the department -- Radio CampBuzz, ULAB TV, CinemaScope, PR4U, Animation Studio, ShutterBugs -- greeted the newcomers with an invitation to join their respective sides. PR4U member Sabiha Syed Archi hosted the entire event that ended with a musical performance.
