1st CI forum for Fall semester held

The first Curriculum Integration (CI) forum for Fall 2018 was held at Campus A Auditorium on October 25, 2018. Media studies and Journalism (MSJ) department of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised the event. The department conducts curriculum integration every semester to showcase creative works of the students and enable student interaction as well as strengthen links. The theme for Fall 2018 is “Youth Empowerment”. "Youth Empowerment" is a process where children and young people are encouraged to take charge of their lives. They do this by addressing their situation and then take action in order to improve their access to resources and transform their consciousness through their beliefs, values, and attitudes. Youth empowerment aims to improve quality of life. Keeping relation with the unified theme, the CI forum features talks of three MSJ faculty members.
First of all, Wafi Aziz Sattar, lecturer of MSJ, presented his speech. He talked about important aspects of community level empowerment and explained how a person can empower him/herself. Then Professor Dr Din Mohammad Sumon Rahman of MSJ explained his own understanding of the youth. He also read out one of his write-ups that beautifully showcased the time of youth. Later, Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, assistant professor of MSJ, mentioned various effective youth development programs worldwide as well as measures that have been taken by the government for development of the youth. He further talked about various youth empowerment programs at ULAB that have been helpful in empowering and developing the skills of university students. In his closing speech, Dr Jude William Genilo, head of MSJ, said, “We have chosen the theme -- youth empowerment -- because youth is very important.” Later, all the three discussants answered the questions from the audience in a question-answer session. PR4U, a public relations apprenticeship programme of MSJ, was event management. Raisa Naushin, a member of PR4U, hosted the event.
