Prof David Mould visits ULAB

Communication expert Professor David H Mould of Media Arts and Studies at Ohio University visited University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) in the first week of September. During his two-day visit, he attended a workshop on C4D (Communication for development) curriculum and talked with the students about their career opportunities in the field of C4D. On September 3, Professor David met Vice Chancellor Professor Dr H M Jahirul Haque and Special Advisor to ULAB Board of Trustees (BoT) Professor Imran Rahman. Later, as part of the orientation of both ULAB and Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) department, a meeting was held with head of MSJ Professor Dr Jude William Genilo, faculty members Dr Sarkar Barbaq Quarmal and Mohammad Shazzad Hossain. During the meeting, a documentary on ULAB was shown to Prof David, followed by two presentations -- MSJ undergraduate programme presentation by Mohammad Shazzad and graduate programme presentation by Dr Sarkar Barbaq.

Later, Dr David visited MSJ facilities on Campus B. Assistant Professor Muhammad Abdul Kader accompanied him at that time. During the visit, Professor David gave interviews for Cambuzz and ULAB TV -- two apprenticeship programmes of MSJ. Afterwards he had a meeting with C4D curriculum subcommittee at Campus B where all the committee members were present. Later on that evening, an event titled “Masterclass on Communication for Development” was organized in collaboration with International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) at the Campus B Seminar Room. MComn students attended the event. Professor Dr Sumon Rahman of MSJ delivered the welcome speech. Dr Sarkar Barbaq Quarmal, graduate program co-coordinator of MSJ, introduced the chief guest -- Professor Dr David -- before the audience. Professor David gave an elaborate, insightful speech on communication followed by an interactive question-answer session. Following that, MSJ department head Dr Jude presented Professor David a plaque of appreciation and delivered a vote of thanks.

On the second day, September 4, Professor David paid a visit to a development communication class on Campus B coordinated by Associate Professor Dr Kazi Mahmudur Rahman. Later, he met all MSJ faculty members.
