Usama Rafid holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka. He is currently a Lecturer in the Media Studies and Journalism Department, where he mentors students and supports their academic and professional development.
Before joining academia, Rafid gained substantial experience in research and media. As an Assistant Analyst at the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), he contributed to projects examining media practices and challenges, including media framing and information disorder. He also completed the Young Researchers’ Fellowship at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), where he focused on qualitative and mixed-method research.
In addition to his research background, Rafid has newsroom experience as a Staff Feature Writer and Sub-Editor at The Business Standard. He also spent over five years as Social Media Manager at Roar Bangladesh, where he oversaw digital platforms and produced a wide range of text-based content.
