  • ULAB has been ranked 75th in the Global Top 100 Innovative Universities in the WURI Ranking 2023, with ULAB TV at 36th, the Curriculum Integration Programme at 28th, DIMFF at 19th, and Digital Journalism at 20th.
  • ULAB becomes finalist in World Public Relations and Communication Awards

 

2022

  • ULAB was ranked 96th in the Global Top 100 Innovative Universities in the WURI Ranking 2022, with ULAB TV at 49th, the Curriculum Integration Programme at 36th, DIMFF at 25th, and Digital Journalism at 15th.
  • ULAB MSJ department organized Dhaka Media Summit 2022 on the Future of Journalism in association with IAMCR Bangladesh in 2022.
  • ULAB MSJ department hosted the 5th Networking Conference of the Communication and Journalism Educators Network Bangladesh in association with DW Akademie in 2022.

 

2021

  • ULAB has entered the coveted Global Top 100 Innovative Universities in the World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking for 2021. Under the Entrepreneurial Spirit category, ULAB ranked 28.  ULAB’s entry to this category is the Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF).
  • ULAB won the Social Science Silver Award 2021 in Wharton-QS Reimagine Education Awards,the Oscar of Education
  • The Undergrad Program of the Media Studies and Journalism Department is approved by the  Global Accreditation of Education and Training Qualifications

 

2020

  • ULAB has been placed in the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Ranking 2020 for innovative and creative approaches in the thesis of the Masters in Communication program offered by Media Studies and Journalism department.ULAB has been ranked 46th among the top 50 universities under the Industrial Applications category.

 

2019

  • The ULAB MSJ department shifted fully in Mohammadpur Permanent Campus.

 

2018

  • Programme CinemaScope started organizing Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) with CinemaScope Mobile Film Competition (CMFC) as its competition category.
  • Fact Checking web service FactWatch launched.
  • The fourth strategic development plan was approved by ULAB management.
  • The department has almost 900 students.

 

2016

  • The ULAB MSJ department passed the first stage of programme accreditation of the ACEJMC (Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications).

 

2015

  • The third strategic development plan of the department was formulated.
  • The number of students was 732 and full-time faculty was 17.
  • Animation apprenticeship programme, ULAB Animation Studio and public relations apprenticeship programme, PR4U have been launched.
  • Started to organize CinemaScope Mobile Film Competition (CMFC).

 

2014

  • For the first time ULAB became a screening site of the Creative Time Summit.

 

2013

  • Communication Major offered in the Master in Business Administration Programme.
  • ULAB TV has been launched. Communication Initiative (CI) USA membership.
  • Masters in Social Science in Media Studies and Journalism has been renamed as Master in Communication.

 

2012

  • The second strategic development plan of the department was formulated.
  • The number of students was 500 and full-time faculty was 10.
  • Global Alliance on Public Relations and Communication Management (GA) Switzerland membership.
  • The graduate curriculum was updated to focus on Leadership Communication.

 

2011

  • The undergraduate curriculum was updated with study concentrations in Business Journalism, Digital Film and Television Production, and Public Relations.
  • ULAB Campus Radio CampBuzz went on air.

 

2010

  • The first issue of the ULABian campus paper was published.
  • The photo and film apprenticeship programmes were established.
  • International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) UK membership.

 

2009

  • Prof. Jude William Genilo became the Department Head.
  • The first strategic development plan for the department was formulated.
  • The number of students was 150 and full time faculty was 5.
  • The Curriculum Integration Programme became a feature of the department. International Communication Association (ICA) USA membership.

 

2008

  • The Masters in Social Science in Media Studies and Journalism launched.

 

2007

  • The Media Lab was established.
  • Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) Singapore membership.

 

2006

  • Prof. Brian Shoesmith became the Department Head.

 

2004

  • ULAB launched with UGC approval.
  • MSJ undergraduate programme started with Prof. Sakhawat Ali Khan as the Department Head.
