The Dhaka International Mobile Film Festival (DIMFF) officially kicked off its 2026 edition on 19th April, Saturday at the ULAB Permanent Campus, through an opening event titled “Unfolding DIMFF 2026.” Organized by the Department of Media Studies and Journalism, the launch celebrated 12 years of mobile filmmaking excellence.

In his inaugural speech, Prof. M. Sumon Rahman, Dean of the School of Social Science and Head of MSJ, remarked, “Twelve years of DIMFF legacy is no matter of joke.” He highlighted the platform’s consistent role in nurturing young storytellers and pushing media innovation forward.

Asst. Prof. Mohammad Shazzad Hossain added depth to the discussion, saying, “New Communication, New Generation, New Tools—that’s what DIMFF stands for. It’s a festival shaped by student spirit, and that’s what makes it special.” He urged young creators to explore technologies like AI in their filmmaking.

The event also featured the unveiling of the DIMFF 2026 logo, the screening of “Jimmi (জিম্মি)” directed by Ashfaque Nipun, followed by a Q&A with the creative team including Adnan Al Rajeev and Md. Habibur Rahman Tareq. The series, starring Joya Ahsan, sparked a discussion on storytelling, tech, and creative challenges.

A playful team intro video by Festival Director Zahra Nusrat, a showcase on the evolution of filmmaking, and a certificate ceremony for volunteers and ambassadors rounded out the event.

The program ended on a high note with a group selfie, capturing the energy, collaboration, and forward-looking spirit of DIMFF.
